“When Herod realized that the Magi had outwitted him, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:
“A voice is heard in Ramah,
weeping and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children
and refusing to be comforted,
because they are no more.”
Matthew 2:16-18 (NIV)
Who was this person trying to kill our Lord when He was a baby?
I found this in Wikipedia:
Herod I or Herod the Great (c. 72 BCE – c. 4 BCE) was a Roman Jewish client king in Judea. He is known for his colossal building projects throughout Judea. Among these works is the rebuilding of the Second Temple in Jerusalem—the Western Wall being part of it. Vital details of his life are recorded in the works of the 1st century CE Roman–Jewish historian Josephus.
According to the official Jewish records, Herod the Great died in 4 BC. Herod was an important figure and was sick for one year before he died. Before he was ill, he ordered the killing of boys under two years old in the Ramah area.
What is this important?
If Herod the Great ordered the executions in 5 BC before he got sick, it means the birth year of our Lord has to be in 6 BC because Herod the Great tried to kill all boys under two years old to avoid a margin of error. Many would say that is impossible because 1 BC has to be our Lord's birth year, and we have learned that from schools and churches. So you know a monk named Dionysius Exiguus decided the birth year of our Lord at 1 BC. Here is the information of this monk:
Dionysius Exiguus (c. 470 – c. 544) was a 6th-century Easter Roman monk. He was a member of a community of Scythian monks concentrated in Tomis (present-day Constanța, Romania). Dionysius is best known as the inventor of Anno Domini (AD) dating, which is used to number the years of both the Gregorian calendar and the Julian calendar….
Anno Domini is Latin and means "in the year of the Lord." Dionysius Exiguus’s dating system was devised in 525 AD but was not widely used until the 9th century. How he came to the birth year of our Lord is unknown. Dionysius Exiguus decided the Year One BC in the 6th century, 500+ years after. I believe he made a massive error in calculating the birth year of our Lord Jesus Christ.
If our Lord had been born after 4 BC (between 1 BC and 4 BC), Herod the Great would not have known about Him from the Magi and could have never ordered the execution of children under two years old because Herod died in 4 BC. The Bible would be telling a false story.
I believe our Lord was born in 6 BC. He walked on earth for 33 years and departed in 27 AD to be with the Father. The prophet Hosea prophesied the Messiah’s return in two days, which is 2,000 years on Earth (Hosea 6:1-2) because one day with the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day (2 Peter 3:8).
27 AD + 2,000 Years = 2027 AD
From Adam to our Lord’s return, there shall be a total of 6,000 years, which is six days for God. After our Lord’s return, there will be 1,000 years of peace on Earth, the Seventh Day of Rest. Hosea also mentioned it as the Third Day of 1,000 years for God to restore us. Paul has also reminded us to make every effort to enter the Rest so that no one will perish (Hebrews 4:10).
Now you know why the birth year of our Lord in 6 BC is important for you and me.
Because He is coming back soon.
