Fear Not

^“…No one was strong enough to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and in the hills, he would cry out and cut himself with stones. When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him. He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? In God’s name don’t torture me!” For Jesus had said to him, “Come out of this man, you impure spirit!” Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” “My name is Legion,” he replied, “for we are many.” And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.” Mark 5:2-10 (NIV)

I recently watched a video of a Navy SEAL sharing his experience of becoming a believer in our Lord through an encounter with demons in a “safe house”. He was terrified, knowing that all the training he had received was useless against this kind of enemy. He was very scared, and so were the other soldiers with him. They didn’t want to sleep alone. He called his brother the next day, and then his brother’s pastor prayed aloud on speakerphone to rebuke the demons in our Lord’s name, and things changed.

How many demons were in that safe house?

I don’t know. But I know how many demons were in that man who begged our Lord not to torture them before the appointed time, the man with a legion of demons. A Roman legion consisted of 5,000 to 6,000 soldiers during Imperial Rome. Imagine so many people gathering in a house, each with a unique personality, yet all with a mean heart. Their goal is to destroy the house. They begged our Lord again and again not to be sent to Hell. Hell must be a terrible place even for demons. They were granted their wish to leave the man and go into the 2,000 pigs.

What did these demons see when they saw our Lord?

They saw our Lord far away and were very scared.

How did they know Him, as the One with authority?

Could there be a shining light that blinded them in the heavenly realm that represents the Son of the Most High?

Did they hear the voice from the cloud like Peter, John and James during the Transfiguration?

^“ …….. a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” Matthew 17:5 (NIV)

I don’t know. I cannot see the elements in the heavenly realm. Still, I have observed and seen the manifestations of demons in deliverances. I can testify that the power of our Lord Jesus Christ extends across all realms. The world sees our Lord as a soft teacher, not the Mighty King. They swear by His name and do not fear Him, and mock Him whenever they can. That’s a big mistake. Even the strongest soldiers screamed like little kids in the presence of demons, and yet all demons bow to our Lord.

Are 2,000 demons too many?

^“Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshiped.” Revelation 5:11-14 (NIV)

When we see ten thousand times ten thousand heavenly warriors bow down to our Lord and follow Him to battle, I hope my feet will be able to hold my weight. A hundred million heavenly hosts sing praise to the Lamb. We are not even qualified to be part of that group yet. The Lamb paid the full price for our sins. It is the most extraordinary love story in the universe. With this Love, now we have the strength to carry our cross daily with joy and hope to become part of this heavenly group soon.

But for now, the spirit of fear does not belong to you.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 7 (KJV)

The Bible says fear comes from fear of punishment. As you walk on the Narrow Road of righteousness, the fear of punishment cannot stay. There could be lingering things in life that you want to get rid of. Those are the things that can give you fears of earthly consequences you don’t like. Everything hidden will always come to light because God cannot be mocked. Remember that love conquers fear, and the enemy and his minions can never comprehend it. From my experience in the men’s purity ministry for many years, I can testify that no mental health solution can help a deceitful heart. To become a disciple, a heart change is required, a new heart with unconditional love that only our Lord can give. There will be no place for the spirit of fear because we no longer live for ourselves. Next time, when you sense the spirit of fear taking over, remember to take a step back. Use your authority as a disciple, do not fear and do not doubt, for our Lord is with you. Pray our Lord’s Prayer without ceasing. The enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Don’t surrender and fear not. In a staring contest, who is gonna lose if you never blink?

This prayer can help you to renounce the spirits of fear on your journey. As usual, a prayer is to be prayed many times.

“Dear Heavenly Father and Lord Jesus Christ,

Thank You for Your grace, mercy and love.

I have listened to the enemy’s lies and allowed fear and doubt to master me.

I have not walked by faith but by sight. Forgive me for my unbelief.

You have only given me the spirit of power, love, and discipline.

Teach me how to love as You have loved me and reveal to me all the fears and doubts in my life that I must renounce and repent.

I want to be free from my sins and be blameless before You as Your disciple.

In the name of my Lord Jesus Christ

Amen”
