“The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third. Then he sent other servants to them, more than the first time, and the tenants treated them the same way. Last of all, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said. “But when the tenants saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’ So they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him.” Matthew 21:35-39 (NIV)
I like to use my NIV Bible because it is the Bible I was given when I became a follower of our Lord. I took care of this Bible and haven’t made any notes. I carry this book when I travel. It still looks new after 13 years and only has some tear stains. I have read this Bible many times. However, I have often been criticized for quoting the verses in this NIV Bible instead of the King James version. It seems they quickly judge my faith once they see the quotes from the NIV Bible. I read the King James version for verification and many other non-canonical books, including books on the so-called Abraham religion. I have also read the Babylonian Talmud and know what they think of our Lord. I don’t think any of the early disciples of our Lord had so many choices, yet they needed no testimonies from others to certify their faith. Faith is given by the above, not the version of the English Bible you read. Therefore, I don’t argue with those quick to judge things they don’t know. It is up to our Lord to open eyes and change hearts, not me.
The Good Landlord and His Son own the vineyard where you and I live. We are tenants who do not pay the rent. Many tenants before us also didn’t pay the rent. Some became powerful in the vineyard, collected rent, and claimed it for the benefit of the tenants. They do not believe in the Good Landlord and His Son. They serve the other guy, the enemy, who wants to see the destruction of the vineyard. And some appointed themselves as special tenants and the spokesperson for the Good Lord and His Son.
The Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, said He was the Last of All to be sent to the tenants 2,000 years ago. Many servants sent before Him were tortured and killed. Those servants were called Prophets during the OT time. Those prophets proclaimed the will of God. Noah, Abraham, Moses, Elijah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Isaiah, Hosea, Jonah…until John the Baptist. They received instructions from the Good Landlord and His Son to warn and rebuke the tenants to repent of their sins.
“The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing their way into it. It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law.” Luke 16:16-17 (NIV)
Our Lord said the Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John the Baptist. John was the last prophet sent by God to prepare the way for our Lord, the last of all, and there were no more servants (prophets) left to be sent. The Son, God Himself, came down to Earth and preached the good news of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whoever has seen the Son has seen the Father. Whoever has heard the words and followed the commands of the Son shall have eternal life. The old contract became obsolete, and the Son sealed the New Covenant with His blood on the Cross. The old way has passed away, and He made everything new. That is how the contract works.
I trust our Lord and His words. He has shown Himself, and we have His commands. We have the fifth book of the Gospel, the Book of Revelation, for what will come. We know our Lord is returning soon. Those special tenants who self-claim as modern-day prophets pretend they don’t understand Luke 16:16.
Do we need a prophet for our discipleship walk with our Lord Jesus Christ, if the Master’s commands are already in the Bible?
I won’t judge which version of the Bible you read or in what language. We have only one teacher, and He needs no introduction. We can talk to Him twice or ten times a day through prayers without intermediaries. He will give us the faith, wisdom, and peace we need, for His heart is gentle and humble. He said many false prophets would appear and deceive many by this time because His return is soon.
Why is this so important?
We have mentioned it a few times in other letters. I believe there will be a last deception for the disciples. If any of you look up to someone who calls themselves a modern-day prophet, this is for you.
